Versioning and lifecycle policy.

Gankpo identifies versions of its formats, APIs and applications separately so integrators can assess compatibility and prepare for change.

Formats

A format version is recorded in its metadata when required for interpretation. An incompatible change must use a new major version; compatible additions use a minor version or documented optional fields.

APIs

APIs exposed to integrators use an explicit version identifier. An incompatible change does not silently replace an existing contract. Migration arrangements and any coexistence period are specified in the relevant API documentation.

Applications

Every publicly distributed application must display its version number, platform, requirements and, for downloadable files, the integrity information provided by the official download centre.

Support and deprecation

Support periods depend on the product and, where applicable, the governing contract. A version is announced as deprecated only with identification of the affected version, expected impact and recommended path.
